Never Forget
Never Forget is the mantra Americans use to remember the day terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York City, New York, the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Over the years, hundreds of memorials have been erected to commemorate the worst attack ever to take place on American soil. Each year, memorial services take place throughout the country remembering the 347 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers who were killed on September 11, 2001. One of the most moving memorials can be seen at ground zero in NYC each year on September 11 as the sun goes down.
On September 11, 2019 I climbed into a helicopter to capture this riveting display of light from approximately the same height at which American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the North and South towers. My goal was to capture the two pillars of blue light as they burn brightly against the dark Manhattan skyline. The photography flight only lasted one-hour, but the impact it has made on this photographer will last a lifetime.
