2019 Fall Yellowstone and Grand Tetons Photography Workshop

Grand Tetons Morning Light

September 27-October 4, 2019

This Fall Workshop is designed to provide a photographic experience capturing Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons National Parks. You will be picked up in comfortable SUV’s on the morning of September 28th and will be staying within both parks for the duration of the workshop. Advantage of lodging within the parks allows easy accessibility to all of the locations you will be traveling to for shooting.

Mineral Deposit Abstract

You will start off with spending four full days in Yellowstone. Yellowstone is home to more than 10,000 geothermal features encompassing geysers, steam vents and baths, percolating mud baths and colorful microbial mats with vivid colors. In addition to all of the geothermal features that Yellowstone has to offer, there are many other spectacular vistas including the snow-covered mountains, the autumn colored trees and meadows, and the ‘golden’ Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Night photography of the ‘Old Faithful’ geyser erupting will be one of the evening events.

Mormon Barn Panorama

You will then move to the Grand Tetons National Park located just ten miles south of Yellowstone. You will transcend from the geothermal features of Yellowstone to the majestic and more ‘serene’ landscapes of the Grand Tetons. The Tetons mountain range extends the entire range of the park and provides a magnificent backdrop of the homesteads situated in Jackson Hole Valley that we will be capturing. You will be visiting ‘Mormon Row’ homesteads and the notorious ‘Shane’ cabins from the 1953 western film starring Alan Ladd. We will also be shooting along the Snake River. The Aspen trees should be at their peak fall colors.

The Wonderous Milky Way over the Grand Tetons

Night photography in the Tetons will include photographing the ‘Milky Way’ and light painting of Shane cabins. In the evenings you will listen to the iconic sounds of howling of wolves and coyotes and the bugling of elks. You will have the opportunity to photograph a variety of wildlife including elk during their mating season, pronghorns, mule deer, bison, grizzly bears, eagles and more.

The small group with a ratio of 3 or 4 students to 1 instructor will ensure personal instruction. Regardless of your skill level, this workshop will enhance your photography skills, especially in the areas of landscapes, wildlife, and night photography.

Grizzly Stare Down

Bringing a laptop with Photoshop or Lightroom to process your images is suggested. You will learn how to process landscapes. A review session will be scheduled to discuss the successes and challenges you encounter along the way. Pat and Larry will be by your side to offer pointers and review your images in the field.
